New blog, who dis'?

This blog is my attempt to bring myself and others closer to a modern and convenient life that allows us to leave a cleaner world for our sons and daughters without draining bank accounts or wearing organic burlap sacks.

You're here, you're reading this, so it's safe to assume you may have been experimenting with trying to be more conscious of your purchases and your lifestyle choices. I'm writing this, so obviously, I have too. It's been almost two years since I've developed this nagging little voice that questions my purchases each time I swipe my credit card or click my way through a checkout. It asks me if what I bought is necessary? (mostly not) Is it sustainable? (again, no) And is it ethically produced? (questionable) Having a baby took my anxieties about our planet's waning resources and manifested them into a real need to be part of the solution and stop exacerbating the problem. So here I am, ready to respond to my internal nag by holding myself accountable for my purchasing decisions and hopefully, live the clean life I envision for my family. Having a baby is hard, now I have to try and save the planet for him too as if I wasn't exhausted enough.

Sustainable shopping is an arduous task. It takes an otherwise mindless, enjoyable past time and turns it into a time-consuming, anxiety-inducing exercise. It's expensive. It's time-consuming, and it's worth it. The products last longer, the planet lasts longer and the more people spend on sustainable, ethically made goods, the more billion-dollar brands will follow the money trail and hopefully, create a real shift in how we consume.

We're here together on this journey to find ethical clothing manufacturers that sell more than dumpster-chic rompers at Gucci prices. We're here to find companies that give a shit who is making their products and pay them a living wage for their work. We're here to find compromises we can live with because, hey, this is an imperfect world and we are busy, have budgets and are sometimes just tired.

I'll curate lists of great goods, share some inspiration, share my many failures, recipes, experiments and the pieces of myself that drive me to commit to creating a more sustainable world for myself and my sons. I want them to see the coral reef one day, maybe a whale, have trees to climb and wear clothes made by a proud, working individual and not a destitute woman or her kindergartener. I'm happy you're here, I'm happy I'm here. Please, share any goods you find, companies that rock, suggestions or corrections and together we'll create a thriving space to make the sustainable option an easier one.
