Lush-ish

Shampoo bars eliminate the need for a plastic bottle, so when it’s gone, it’s gone. Beautiful. 

I’ve seen many, many recipes for homemade shampoo and that’s just not for me. I’m all for DIY, and even though I know it’s not true, rubbing baking soda, and vinegar on my head doesn’t seem like it will leave my hair clean and shiny. Plus, a steamy, overly scented shower is aromatherapy compared to the Eau de toddler filling the rest of my house. My last attempt at a ‘better’ shampoo option was less than stellar so I went with the company I know will deliver the olfactory experience I’m sniffing for, along with a product that works. 

If you’ve been to Lush, you know what I’m talking about. Beautiful, handcrafted soaps, hippy scents, overly friendly staff. It’s a bubbly mecca of ethical cleansers. It can also be expensive. But Glory, Glory, Soapy Hallelujah, these shampoo bars are CHEAP when you consider how long they last. They claim it will last about 80 washes. If you’re shampooing five times a week, that’s almost four months. That’s like buying VO5 once a month.

(You do have to buy this $4 re-usable tin, so the constant moisture from the shower doesn’t use it all up before you do but it’s a one-time purchase.) 

There are several types of shampoo bars at Lush for all hair types. I chose the Godiva because it claims it doesn’t need any conditioner to follow and is suitable for dry hair. I have medium thick, dry, slightly graying, wavy-ish hair. My husband chose Karma Komba bar strictly for the scent. 

I LOVE this bar. You rub it on the top of your head, it suds up and you rinse it out like regular shampoo. It did not leave my hair with the silky conditioner feeling while wet, but when it dried, my hair was super soft. I haven't tried the Karma Komba yet, but my husband did and was indifferent about his results. 

So far, this shampoo is a win! I’ll update when I’ve used it all up and let everyone know how long it lasted.
